Our target groups

Staff from prison administrations who play a crucial role in implementing and overseeing rehabilitation programs.

Educators and trainers, providing them with the tools and resources needed to deliver effective vocational training.

Compendium of practices preparing inmates for employment

Objectives

  • Searching practices to prepare inmates for employment (procedures, context, contact with employers, desire to work, skills to be employed…)
  • Showcasing and analysing case studies to inspire and guide trainers and penitenciary staff on employability

Our research focuses on examining the practices implemented in detention centers to prepare for employment, evaluating the development of essential skills, knowledge acquisition, career orientation, and fostering the desire to work.

An interactive offline pathway preparing to employment

Objectives

  • Preparing for employment: job search procedures, employment context, and connecting with employers.
  • Using the case studies to inspire trainers and prison staff regarding employability.
  • Enhancing employability equiping inmates with the required skills and knowledge.
  • Identifying sectors with labor shortages adapted to our target group.
  • Implementing learning pathways towards employment.
  • Guiding educational organisations and prison staff for implementing offline tools like MoodleBox.

BV2i aims to enhance inmates employability through an offline learning pathway accessible on MoodleBox. Targeting prison education organisations, staff, training funders and persons who are incarcerated, we will develop modules on employment skills and labor-shortage sectors. These modules, adapted to each country’s context, will be piloted, with feedback used for improvements. A practical guide will be created to assist in setting up similar learning tools in prisons. We expect to engage 110 inmates in the pilot, with a dropout rate of less than 10%.

BoostInBox

Experience training in detention centeres with BV2i Moodle box, offering courses and resources for employment in offline mode.

Activity 1

The program is structured into four modules, each focusing on different aspects of the job search and employment process.

Presentation of job market: This module introduces the key stakeholders and how they are working and structured (employers, recruiters, supporting organisations…). Understanding these players helps job seekers navigate the employment landscape effectively.

Overall, the program aims to provide a comprehensive set of skills and knowledge to help persons who have been incarcerated successfully find and integrate into employment.

Knowledge and skills for employment

  1. Job Hunting: This module covers strategies and techniques for finding job opportunities. It may include topics like networking, using job boards, and leveraging social media for job searches.

  2. Applying for a Job: This module focuses on the application process, including how to write effective resumes and cover letters, tailor applications to specific job descriptions, and submit applications through various channels.

  3. Interview Skills: This module prepares participants for job interviews by teaching them how to present themselves professionally, answer common interview questions, and demonstrate their qualifications and fit for the role.

  4. Integrating into a Company: This module addresses the transition into a new workplace, covering topics such as understanding company culture, building relationships with colleagues, and adapting to new roles and responsibilities.

Activity 2

This activity will present and promote these sectors. A focus will be made on jobs that are accessible without qualification and with a short training, while providing evolution possibilities.

The content will include videos and will be easy to understand for all.

Job opportunities in labour shortage sectors

Will be promoted sectors such as

  1. Construction: building and maintenance of infrastructure, residential properties, and commercial spaces. It offers a variety of roles including the possiblity to start without formal diplomas.
  2. Hospitality and Catering: This sector encompasses hotels, restaurants, and event management. It provides numerous entry-level positions that can lead to career growth, such as kitchen staff, servers, and housekeeping roles.
  3. Tourism: offers diverse job opportunities, from tour guides to customer service roles, which often prioritize practical skills over formal education.
  4. Industry: This broad sector includes manufacturing, production. Many positions in this sector focus on hands-on skills and on-the-job training, making them accessible to those without diplomas.
  5. Logistics: management and transportation of goods. It offers roles in warehousing, delivery, and supply chain management, many of which are open to candidates with practical experience.
